IAABO established a formalized training/mentoring program for its members in the fall of 2008. The IAABO Officials Development Program(O.D.P.) has evolved into Missouri's premier training vehicle for new, aspiring, and committed officials. Our O.D.P. is a multi-faceted program featuring one-on-one mentoring, three 90 minute classroom training sessions, filmed scrimmage work, multiple regular season game reviews, and film review of one of your IAABO game assignments.

All of the above features are great but, the single most important ingredient making our program the best is.....accountability! Our IAABO O.D.P. separates itself from all others by holding each of the participants to a standard of excellence and commitment. The commitment starts with our O.D.P. committee that meets multiple times each year to assess the components of our training and submit nominees for inclusion in the O.D.P., either as a mentee or a mentor. The success of the O.D.P. can be seen in the growing numbers seeking training/mentoring. Our initial class in 2008 had 16 mentees, 2009 involved 19 officials, 2010 grew to 21 participants, and this season we have 27 officials committed to the program.

Coupled with the accountability factor, our growth, structure, and ultimate success within the O.D.P. can be traced to the annual involvement of the areas top rated and most decorated officials as mentors. The 2011 class of mentors have worked twenty-five(25) MSHSAA Final Fours among them! Their outstanding leadership and experiences are willingly shared with their mentees throughout the O.D.P. season. Each year of participation the mentee is paired with a different mentor to obtain a well rounded perspective on the art of officiating.

Our O.D.P. is a three(3) year commitment for the nominated mentees. Our initial graduating class included seven(7) IAABO members including; James Abarquez(IAABO's inaugural winner of the Most Improved Official Award), Jason Zytko, Dominic Blesener, Jim Lillard, Ed Boyet, Tom Zytko, and Jody Scott.
